About This Meeting

The Big Book Lab is a closed Big Book discussion meeting of alcoholics looking for an opportunity to engage with other members of A.A. in an informative conversation about our Big Book.

The keyword here – is conversation.

We have defined LAB as a “space vital for the study, exploration, and development of our spiritual conditions through our book and strongly encourage what we call – spiritual crosstalk.”

Imagine the experience as if we were all sitting in a living room, books in hand, discussing, and asking questions of each other about the book and sharing our experience. All experience and questions are valid and we hope you’ll feel free to share yours in this meeting so we can learn and grow from each other.

This – AIN’T – Your Daddy’s Big Book Discussion.

FAQ

It’s a online meeting. We will meet each Thursday night at 6:30pm CT on ZOOM.

That’s true in most meetings. But in this meeting, we encourage it. A “conversation” is defined as an informal exchange of thoughts, ideas, feelings, and experience between two or more people. It’s a way for members to connect, share information, and build relationships. While it’s out of the norm for most A.A. meetings, we are hoping this format will enhance the learning for everyone.

While our format may be fairly fluid, dynamic, and organic (just as conversations typically are), it’s the goal that each week, we read from the Big Book and whoever is chairing the meeting will come prepared with 3-5 questions to put out on the floor for discussion.  Attendees can come with questions too! As we grow into this meeting and its format that may change, but our goal is for it to be a true conversation always.

Any member (or potential member) of A.A. who wants to go deeper in our basic text through an engaging conversation with other members. It is a closed meeting however so it is limited to people who have a desire to stop drinking as outlined in A.A.’s Third Tradition.

Not at all. The hope is that it be just as informal as if we were all sitting around a coffee shop or in someone’s living room sharing our experience, strength & hope (ES&H) about the book.

It is a meeting not a group. Members of A.A. will not become home group members of BBL. We will however give out desire chips for those attending their first A.A. meeting who have a desire to stop drinking and for those members who may need to re-establish their sobriety date. This meeting is being offered as another option for people who already have a home group but want additional opportunities to discuss the Big Book with A.A. members.

Yes. This meeting is self-supporting through it’s own contributions. We have fees to pay for our virtual platform. We will “pass the basket” at each meeting and folks who wish to contribute digitally can use VENMO to do so (scan QR code below). Please place “BBL” in the notes if contributing via Venmo.
